Dependencies

Which repositories in the index do other repositories in the index use? For each scanned repository, AwesomeRepos reads the packages that its GitHub dependency graph names, and finds the repository that each package comes from. This page counts, for each ecosystem, the scanned repositories that name one or more packages of a repository. How the dependency graph is made.

The scan set is the 2,000 visible repositories with the most stars. Scanned Nov 3, 2026 – Nov 3, 2026. Each repository is scanned again after 7 days.

How the most used repositories use each other

Of the 90 repositories that the most scanned repositories use, the 76 that use or are used by another of them, and the 205 edges between them. The color is the ecosystem in which the most repositories use it. The lists below give the same facts as text.

How the dependency graph is made

Each hour, a job takes up to 200 of the 2,000 visible repositories with the most stars that were not scanned in the last 7 days. For each one, it reads the dependency graph that GitHub makes from the manifests and lock files of the default branch. It keeps only the direct packages: the packages that the repository itself names, not the packages that they need in turn.

For each package, deps.dev (Open Source Insights) names the source repository. A GitHub Action, and a Go module or a Swift package on github.com, needs no lookup: its name is the address of its repository. A repository uses another repository when it names one or more packages from it. A repository's own packages do not count.

Limits of these facts:

  • A dependency graph names development packages too, for example test tools. It does not say which packages a repository needs at run time.
  • deps.dev takes most source repositories from the metadata that a package publishes. Nobody checks that metadata, so a package can name a repository that did not make it.
  • "Used by" counts only the scanned repositories. A repository outside the scan set can use a package and not be counted.
  • When GitHub has no dependency graph for a repository, it has no "Uses" list. GitHub has no graph when the repository turns it off or has no manifest that GitHub reads.
