Withholding Rule

AwesomeRepos does not show some repositories in lists, in panels, or to search engines. These are Withheld Repositories.

A repository is withheld when most of its stars arrived on one or two days and the repository has almost no content: a very small size, or very few commits and an owner that has no followers.

A repository with such a burst of stars is also withheld when its README tells the reader to get and run a file from outside GitHub: a command to paste that downloads from another domain, an archive with a password, or a download link to a site where anyone can publish files or pages.

A repository is also withheld when the Repository Host no longer finds it.

Each new Admission is withheld for at least 48 hours from its Admission, and until its checks are complete: its Star History is complete and its README has been read. Then an agent releases it automatically, if no other part of this rule applies. The repositories of the Seed Dataset are not held.

The facts come from Star History, Observations, and the Repository Host. A Withheld Repository stays in the Repository Index, and its page shows the measured facts with their dates.

When the facts change, the rule examines the repository again. An agent or an Operator can release a repository that the rule withholds in error.
