Admissions by week

Each week, repositories enter the Repository Index when their stars rise fast. The bar is the number of Admissions in the week. The dark part is the Admissions that a star burst withholds now.

A new Admission stays on hold for at least 48 hours, until its checks are complete. Thus the numbers of the newest week change as the checks finish.

The shape of a star burst

A star burst is a day, or two days one after the other, that holds most of the stars a repository ever had. 373 of the 482 bursts took one day, and 109 took two days.

What else the rule measured

• 396 of the 482 have a README that tells the reader to get and run a file from outside GitHub: 333 give a command to paste that downloads from another domain, 38 give the password of an archive, and 33 link to a site where anyone can publish files or pages.
• 433 have almost no content: a very small size, or very few commits and an owner that has no followers.
• 21 have fewer stars now than at their highest count: 562 stars in total went away.

Repositories the Repository Host no longer finds

Each day, AwesomeRepos asks the Repository Host about each repository in the index. When the host returns nothing, the repository is withheld until the host returns it again. 462 repositories are withheld for this reason now: 378 entered the index because their stars rose, and 84 came from the Seed Dataset. 216 have no Observation from a day when the host returned them.

The withholding log

Each withhold and each release goes into a log that can only grow. Since Nov 1, 2026, the log has 1,625 withholds and 256 releases, for 1,412 repositories. Of the releases, 125 ended the hold of a new Admission after its checks, 131 were star bursts that no longer match the rule, and 0 were repositories that the host returned again. 0 releases came from an Operator or an agent; the others came from the hourly evaluation.
